Universities Pool Council Nine-ball Championships: 2007-08 Event Preview

Mon 26th Nov 2007 10:11am

Universities Pool Council Press Release:

The weekend of the 30 November - 02 December 2007 sees thirty-seven teams and over 100 university nine-ball players descend on Riley’s Solihull to battle it out for the Team and Individual Championships. This year sees an exciting new format with the team event being split into Championship/Trophy format whilst retaining the double elimination element.

Nottingham 1sts are the holders of the Team Championship and have confidence in retaining their title but will have to contend with the graduation of inspirational Paul Edwards. A strengthened Wolverhampton, York, Bristol and Cardiff are among the favourites however, with new teams such as Bath, Leeds and Manchester Met entering this term, the competition should be a very open one.

A new name will adorn the Billiards Boutique Individual Championship as charismatic Emmanouil ’Manos’ Paspatis will not be there to retain his crown. Names to look out for are former BUSA Snooker Champions Pritesh Patel (Bristol) and James Hill (Warwick), Wolverhampton recruits Ben Patrick and former European (EPBF) 8-ball junior silver medalist Bart Wiatrowski. Again, the entry of several new teams means that there could be a few dark horses in the draw.

The event gets underway with the Billiards Boutique Individual Championship at 10h30 on Friday 30th November that will be played up to and including the quarter-finals. The Team Championship begins at 10h00 on Saturday 1st December with the Billiards Boutique Individual Championship Semi-finals and Final from 17h30. The Team Championship resumes at 10am on Sunday 2nd December with the Semis and Final from around 4pm. The Trophy Semi-finals and final are expected to be underway earlier at 11h30. 23rd November, 2007.
